Ramona Joy Mulligan started running at least 5k per day on 1 April, just after lockdown began, to help her mental wellbeing. Since then she has racked up around 1,000 miles and raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

Ramona said: “On Wednesday I achieved my milestone of running at least 5k every day for six months, running over 1,000 miles in the process.

“I’ve run locally in Cuerden Valley parkrun, Preston parkrun, Carr Brook Linear Park and the A6 Preston Road – plus in Scotland in Argyll and Strathyre forests, Loch Long, Loch Lubeig, and along the canal from the Kelpies to The Falkirk Wheel.

“I’ve been doing 5ks to half-marathons, but the London Virtual Marathon on Sunday will be my longest run in five years.

“I ran the 22 miles of the Guild Wheel for the first time as part of my training for this marathon. Depending on the weather, this route will more than likely be the one I use, plus part of the A6, to complete the 26.2 miles.”

“I’ve had the honour and privilege of raising over £800 for charity. I’ve also supported local food banks, cancer charities and even a local cat sanctuary by donating much needed food and toiletries during running challenges with my club.

“All this as part of daily exercise for mental health, physical fitness and wellbeing. Thank you everyone for your support.”
