New confirmed coronavirus cases have been given for Preston and South Ribble as the government announced its new ‘three-tier’ approach to Covid-19 restrictions.
Preston saw 78 new coronavirus cases, the second-highest daily increase in Lancashire for Monday (12 October).
South Ribble clocked up 46 new cases while Blackburn-with-Darwen was highest with 154 new cases.
The infection rate for Preston is 323 cases per 100,000 people for October 3-9, the latest full data available. England’s average is 77.

There have been 135 coronavirus-related deaths registered in Preston up to 25 September.
South Ribble’s infection rate is 237 per 100,000 and there’s been 94 Covid-19 deaths up to 25 September.

The latest coronavirus figures come as the government confirmed Lancashire, including Preston and South Ribble, was to be placed into the ‘high’ category of its new three-tier approach to restrictions in England.
