A new ice cream and coffee shop has opened at Preston Market.
AdvertisementHakuna Matata opened in July selling a range of ice cream, sweets, drinks and lunch options.
Hakuna Matata is owned by Nurcan, who is from Turkey and has lived in the UK for four years. Nurcan trained as a professional chef at Istanbul Culinary Institute, and runs the stall with partner Steve.
Described as a traditional sweet stall, Hakuna Matata offers takeaway coffee Barista style, and takeaway food including toasties, paninis and jacket potatoes with a choice of over 20 different toppings. There’s a wide variety of sweets and 22 flavours of ice cream.
The stall can also supply sweets for special occasions like baby showers, in gift bags and boxes.
Nurcan said: “We used to run Café Delphine in Hoghton, and decided we would like to try a busier venue, so we opened a stall in Preston Indoor Market.
“We realised there was no sweet shop and ice cream parlour in the area so we thought we would open one.
“Due to the large size of the stall we also decided to offer some food choices, mostly homemade food and coffees and some vegan cakes, as well as a variety of milkshakes and smoothies.
“Our intention was to be a little bit different so we designed our stall to look like an old-fashioned sweet shop. We also tried to make the stall more Covid safe and to protect our products from the damp and any contamination, by enclosing the stall.
“Our aim is to sell good quality products at reasonable and competitive prices to all the local community. We hope the public of Preston like what we have done, and will support us in our new venture.”
