The ‘THANK U NHS’ Spitfire will fly over Royal Preston Hospital in Fulwood at 2.13pm today (Sunday 30 August).
AdvertisementThe Aircraft Restoration Company’s Spitfire PL983 āLā is being covered with the handwritten names of 80,000 heroes nominated by members of the public.
The company, based in Duxford near Cambridge, says the aim is to lift spirits across the UK while thanking the hospitals, communities and individuals who have been at the forefront of getting the country through the coronavirus pandemic.
The Spitfire will arrive over Preston after taking off from Blackpool Airport at 2pm and first visiting Royal Lancaster Infirmary. It will then head on to Royal Blackburn Hospital and 11 other hospitals before landing back at Duxford Airfield at 3.36pm.
Nominations to add a name to the plane are open until 20 September by donating a minimum of Ā£10 on the the NHS Spitfire JustGiving page.
