Thousands of water bottles delivered to Preston hospital staff to help improve wellness

10,000 water bottles have been delivered to NHS staff.

The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity has used a portion of NHS Charities Together money to purchase water bottles for all staff at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

The charity purchased 10,000 ‘Hydration Hero’ water bottles which have been distributed to all departments at Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, and Preston Business Centre.

The bottles are the latest purchase by the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity, in support of staff wellbeing, following the NHS Hero Care Packs which included hand creams and face cream, outdoor relaxation areas and the creation of two NHS Heroes Hubs providing food, drink and toiletries free of charge.

Paula Wilson, Head of Charities and Fundraising at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We asked our staff what they’d like the see the money from NHS Charities Together spent on, and we had some wonderful feedback.

“The Hydration Hero water bottles are keeping our staff well hydrated while at work, and are the first step of many in improving staff wellbeing and facilities at our hospitals.

“The Charity team are delighted to be working with the Wellbeing Team in supporting the roll-out of hydration stations across our hospitals, where staff can access cool water and refill their new bottles.”

Alison Oliver, Project Manager and Health and Wellbeing Champion at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Staff at our hospitals are working long shifts, wearing PPE and in recent spells of hot weather, are at greater risk of becoming dehydrated.

“It is vital that we look after our staff and ensure they are able to provide excellent care, and that starts with their own health and wellbeing.

“These water bottles, funded by our fantastic Charity team, will encourage hydration for our hard working colleagues and will also help to reduce plastic waste within the Trust.”
