Jackie Brunton (L) and Michelle Livesey (R), completed the 2019 Great North Run to raise £1,000 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Fulwood-based cancer charity, Rosemere Cancer Foundation, is to retain the 20 places it had been allocated in this year’s now cancelled Great North Run when the event returns for its 40th anniversary on Sunday 12 September, 2021.

Anyone who had pledged to run for Rosemere Cancer Foundation this year now needs to contact the charity to confirm if they wish to keep their place.

Likewise, if anyone would like a Great North run place, they can avoid the pot luck of the entry ballot by also contacting the charity to secure one of its spaces.

In return for a place, Rosemere Cancer Foundation asks its runners to promise a minimum £300 in sponsorship and to pay a £25 admin fee. Entry to the Great North Run via the ballot is £58.

Dan Hill, the charity’s chief officer, said: “We had 10 runners signed up for 2020 but would have filled all our places had there not been the uncertainty over whether or not the Great North Run would happen this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“September next year might seem a long way off but I would expect demand for 2021 Great North Run places to be even higher than usual given its cancellation this year and its 40th birthday next so I would say if you want a Rosemere place, get in touch sooner rather than later.
