A Black Lives Matter vigil is due to take place on the city’s Flag Market during Wednesday (3 June) evening.
Protests have been taking place across the the United States, United Kingdom and other countries in response to the death of George Floyd.
Community of Preston Together are organising a peaceful remembrance gathering.
It takes place from 8pm tonight and the group is calling for the city to show solidarity in the Justice for George Floyd – United We Stand protest as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Organisers of the protest say social distancing must be adhered to and those attending must wear masks.
A spokesperson for Preston City Council said: “We are aware of an impromptu gathering taking place on the Flag Market this evening, and ask all involved to please carefully adhere to social distancing rules and consider the safety of themselves and others.”
The city council has been lighting up the Harris and Preston Markets purple from Monday evening in solidarity in the fight against racism.
