A 64-year-old who spent 50 days battling coronavirus in Royal Preston Hospital’s critical care unit has been serenaded as he left hospital.

Dr Thomas Owen performed American Pie for music-loving Roger Kenyon as he left the hospital and was greeted by his family.

The critical theraphy team at Royal Preston Hospital shared the moment in a two-minute clip on Twitter.

They said: “First steps today after 50 days in Critical Care at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and serenade from Dr Tom.”

The clip has received a fantastic response on social media with Jill Shepherd summing it up by tweeting: “Saw this today and it made my heart smile.

“Fantastic job done by amazing professionals on ICU.

“Makes me proud to work there also.”
