Tributes have been paid to a footballer who was found dead at his home in Cottam yesterday.
AdvertisementChristian Mbulu, 23, signed for Morecambe FC in January and had previously played for Motherwell, Millwall and Crewe Alexandra.
Police were called to his home in Greenfinch Avenue at around 1:30pm yesterday (Tuesday May 26) to reports of a sudden death.
The news has shocked and saddened the football community, with many taking to social media to pay tribute to the popular player.
A spokesman for Morecambe FC said: “Everyone at Morecambe FC is deeply saddened to learn of Christian Mbulu’s death and would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this very sad time.”

Millwall Tweeted: “Everyone at Millwall Football Club is devastated to learn of the tragic passing of former player Christian Mbulu at the age of just 23. Our hearts go out to his family and friends at this immensely difficult time.”
Crewe Alexandra FC said: “A top professional and an even better person. He would always have a smile on his face, no matter what. You will always be in our hearts.
“Rest in peace, Christian.”
And Motherwell FC said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of our former player Christian Mbulu. RIP Christian.”
Fans described Mbulu as a “clean hearted and hilarious.”
His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner.
