The blaze, in Earlstown, was declared a major incident as 20 fire crews tried to quell the flames, on the hottest day of 2020 so far.

The fire broke out among plastic pallets at the recycling plant on the Great Sankey Industrial Estate at 11am this morning (Wednesday May 20).

Roads were closed and by 1pm it had been declared a major incident as smoke could be seen and smelled from across the North West.
