A diversion is being put in place from 6am on Saturday (May 30) via Lawson Street, Walker Street, Lancaster Road, Melling Street and then into North Road.
Traffic heading towards the city centre from the North Road junction down Ring Way will not be affected.
Area highways manager Rob Wilson said: “We’re sorry for any disruption due to the need to close Ring Way this weekend, however it’s vital that we investigate the cause of the road collapse.
“Unfortunately we can’t say when we’ll be able to reopen the road until we’ve found the cause of the problem, however we’ll be working throughout the weekend as necessary to try to get it repaired as quickly as possible.”
