Barge on the Lancaster Canal went up in flames during Bank Holiday Monday

Firefighters spent Bank Holiday Monday morning put out a fire on a barge on the Lancaster Canal.

Crews from Lancaster and Garstang were called to the fire on Monday (May 25) around 10.58am.

The water incident unit from Preston also attended.

The barge was well alight when crews attended on the canal near Cabus Nook Lane and bridge 71 of the canal.

One person was injured in the fire who had the effects of smoke inhalation and a head injury – they were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters spent an hour and 45 minutes bringing the fire under the control.

The canal boat was severely damaged in the fire.
