Dan, 38, became Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s chief officer last June after joining the charity as a fundraising co-ordinator in 2011.

He said: “We rely on supporters being sponsored to run marathons and take part in tough mudders and other similar events for us, all of which have been wiped out by the current pandemic. Our other streams of income are from coffee mornings, fun days and the like, which due to social distancing have also all had to stop.

“As this is a health crisis no one could have foreseen, we committed ourselves to projects at the start of the year that we still have to fund. We have been humbled by the generosity and ingenuity of our supporters in terms of their willingness to help us try and generate income.

“People have helped by ‘Everesting’ their stairs or virtually cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats on static exercise bikes, so I thought I would try something quite radical for me too by shaving my head!”

Dan, who is married to primary school teacher Sarah and dad to their daughters Ebony (11) and Evie (eight) added: “I am passionate about the work that we do and the positive impact equipment, research and even simpler things such as the complementary health therapies that we fund has on local cancer patients’ lives.

“For that, I am happy for Sarah to be in charge of the clippers and to stream her handiwork live on Facebook!”
