Police have recovered a body from Preston Docks, believed to be missing UCLan student Siddarth Murkumbi.

Siddarth, 23, known as Sid, last spoke to his family in India on the evening of Sunday March 15 and had not been seen or heard from since.

Police launched a missing person appeal, and deployed underwater search and rescue teams to look for the MBA Marketing Studies student.

However they were unable to find him.

Today, officers received a call from a member of the public who reported seeing the body of a man near the swing bridge on Maritime Way.

While it has not been formally identified, police say they believe it to be Siddarth.

A Preston Police spokesman said: “We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who responded to our previous appeal in our search to find Siddharth. Our thoughts very much remain with his family and friends at this very sad time.”

The news comes just four days after the body of missing Preston man Shaun Horan was recovered from the docks.

Neither death is being treated as suspicious and files have been passed to HM Coroner.
