Talkzone has been offering help and advice to young people for 25 years but has now been extended to also offer support to families while the council’s Neighbourhood Centres and Youth Zones are closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The service can be contacted with a free phone number, text, email and via web talk.

Talkzone is now operating extended hours from 8.30am to 10pm each weekday, and from 2pm to 10pm on weekends.

County Councillor Shaun Turner, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “Our Neighbourhood Centres provide a wide range of support for families, but due to the overwhelming need for everyone to stay at home to reduce the spread of coronavirus we have closed them except for delivery of vital midwifery clinics at some centres.

“We realise how much families rely on the support provided through Neighbourhood Centres and would ask that they stay in touch with us for any support they need through Talkzone.

“Talkzone is staffed by trained advisors who can provide confidential support and advice about anything that people want to talk to us about.

“We’re all too aware that the current situation with coronavirus will be affecting people of all ages in different ways, and I’d urge anyone who feels they need some advice and support to get in touch.

“Whether the issue is large or small, Talkzone is available to help, so don’t be afraid to call, text or contact us online.”

You can speak to a Talkzone advisor by calling 0800 511111, text on 07786 511111, email talkzone@lancashire.gov.uk or visit www.facebook.com/LancashireYZ.
