Residents of Ashton say they are fed up of being woken by car enthusiasts using their roads as a race track into the early hours of the morning.
Local residents have taken to social media to discuss the ‘nuisance’ to the area, which they say plagues them mostly at weekends.
The problem has been reported to have been ongoing for years but had grown worse over the summer and now continues to disturb residents every weekend.
Typical comments on social media include: “Can anything be done about the boy racers on A583 Dock road? Almost every night, but weekends are worse. They race up and down until the early hours, engines revving, tyres screeching. It’s a noise nuisance and not fair on the residents.”
“Yet again I had 4hrs sleep last night due to car horns beeping and keeping me awake. Not exactly ideal when I have to work 13hr shifts”
“Well it’s the weekend and the boy racers are out. I live off Blackpool Rd and hear all the traffic down on the docs up here. When are the police going to do something about it?”
One car enthusiast defended his group’s behaviour, explaining: “90 per cent of us are pleasant and quiet. The noise will never kill anyone.”
Residents are asking questions of police and councillors as to why more isn’t being done about the nuisance such as organising a CCTV camera to be fitted on the Preston City Council car park near McDonald’s.
A residents meeting has been organised by Ashton Councillors on Tuesday 25 February at 7.30pm at St Michael’s Church Hall in Tulketh Road and will discuss what can be done to help resolve the problem.
Residents are invited to submit their questions before the meeting to let representatives research the answers to try and help resolve the problems.
Questions can be submitted on this online form or by email to ashtononribbleaction@gmail.com.
