Detectives have made an arrest following the suspicious death of a woman in Preston.

A 26-year old man from Chesterfield has been arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody at this time.

The body of the woman was found by police last night (Sunday 16th February) after they received a welfare report.

Police attended an address on Fir Trees Avenue in the Grange area at around 11pm where a woman’s body was found.

The body has not yet been identified but is believed to be a woman in her 20s.

A Home Office post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of her death.

Ch Insp Pauline Stables, of Lancashire Police, said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends, who are being supported by specially-trained officers at this incredibly difficult time.

“Our investigation is very much under way and we have this afternoon made an arrest. At this time we believe the victim and the arrested man may have been known to each other.

“We are now urging anybody with information about the woman’s death to get in touch with us as soon as possible on 101, quoting log number 1569 of February 15th.”
