A Preston-based property firm has chosen The Space Centre as its charity of the year.

Portergate Property Management, based in Friargate Court, will forge links with The Space Centre to provide fundraising and volunteers to the charity, based in Ashton.

The Space Centre is the largest multi-sensory environment for people with special needs in the UK. It was opened in 1993 and has grown over the years and was the Winner of the Technology Award in the 3^rd Sector Care Awards 2015.

It has two large-soft padded rooms and one non-padded room for clients who require a quiet environment. There is also a Sensory Woodland Walk with a new garden.  

The Space Centre offers a flexible environment for families, carers, therapists and teachers with multiple benefits including freedom for clients to move safely. The facility allows for improving and building confidence and allowing the individuals to increase in learning potential.

Recently, Portergate Property Management helped with a successful bag-packing event in Preston and donated gifts for the charity to use for various fundraising activities.  

Karen Preece, Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to announce The Space Centre as our Charity of the Year. The work they do is crucial to the community in Preston and will help so many lives.  

“We are in a position to be able to spread the message across our accommodation locations, helping to fundraise and host events wherever possible, and it is great that we are able to do that.”
