Over a third of Prestonians are considering buying pre-loved gifts for friends and family this Christmas, according to a new study.
AdvertisementThe same amount (36 per cent) suspect they have been given a pre-owned Christmas present in the past, and 60 per cent admitted they would have no problem receiving pre-loved items.
It’s not just gifts that Prestonians are buying pre-owned, with eight per cent putting up a tree that previously had a different owner.
The stats were revealed in nationwide research by Mazuma Mobile, which looked into how many people will be enjoying a pre-owned Christmas this year, from festive decorations to gifting.
Results showed that 87 per cent of Prestonians now regularly purchase pre-owned products instead of paying full cost for new item equivalents.
The savviest festive shoppers nationally are those aged 25 to 34, who are most likely to have purchased pre-loved gifts in the past, and those aged 18 to 24 are most open to doing so this year. The over 55s are least likely to purchase pre-owned gifts for loved ones.
Craig Smith from Mazuma Mobile said: “Attitudes are changing towards pre-owned shopping as people become savvier with their cash.
“There’s no longer a stigma attached to purchasing pre-loved items and many of us are simply happy to receive something we like, especially when it’s better for the environment and our wallets.
“Christmas is a tough time financially, and purchasing pre-loved items is a really easy way to save pennies over the festive period. It could be as simple as buying used decorations, regifting unwanted gifts, or buying a pre-owned gift for loved ones.”
