An Ashton family has appeared on the 5STAR programme, Rich Kids Go Skint.

Daniel and Cheryl Bennett and their three children welcomed multimillionaire’s son Adil to their three-bedroom terraced house in Balcarres Road for the show.

Adil is seen arriving in Preston in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce that is worth the equivalent of three houses in the Bennetts’ street.

As he is driven down Blackpool Road, Adil says: “To be honest, I don’t know how I would feel if I lived in an area like this.”

Adil then admits he has seen houses like this before – but normally only when he is demolishing them in his role as director of his father’s property company.

Throughout the show Daniel, Cheryl and Adil compare their experiences of life and money.

Adil is shocked to learn that the family of five are living on an income of ÂŁ1,400 per month. The ÂŁ60 per month for the children’s dance lessons that Daniel and Cheryl have to make sacrifices for is the equivalent to Adil’s weekly haircut. And while being shown around the house, Adil is perturbed to find there’s only one bathroom – his family’s house has eight – and reveals that his walk-in wardrobe is bigger than Daniel and Cheryl’s bedroom.

At one point Adil says: “It’s quite shocking and scary how people out there are struggling.”

As he was leaving, Adil presented the Bennetts with tickets for Dancing on Ice.

Reflecting on his visit he said: “I can’t tell you how touched it’s made me feel seeing this family and the way they live, and how happy they live, even though they’ve got such little income.”

Talking about being on the show, Daniel said: “We were approached by a TV researcher due to a review we left about a low budget holiday.

“It was a really good experience. Adil was such a nice lad, and was unexpectedly down to earth and willing to get stuck in to everything.

“But yeah we got him cooking and washing up for the first time in his life, we got him on a bus for the first time ever. He slept on the sofa. He was just completely out of his comfort zone.”

Since the show Adil has talked his dad into making all their company’s new apartments more spacious, as he was so alarmed by the Bennetts’ “cramped accommodation”.

The Bennetts appeared in Season 4 Episode 1 of Rich Kids Go Skint on Monday 28 October. To catch up visit My5.
