A winter-themed pop up bar is coming to Preston.

The Winter Lodge is opening in what is due to become Uptown Pony Club on the corner of Friargate and Heatley Street.

Work is underway to create the alpine ski lodge style-bar – complete with Christmassy fireplace and plenty of exposed wood – in time for a November opening.

The bar will serve a full range of drinks including German beer Paulaner and popular ale Kona Big Wave. There will also be Christmas market classics like hot chocolate, Irish coffee and mulled wine, plus some signature cocktails.

Food will be provided by spud man Keith from The Hot Potato Tram on the Flag Market. Alongside traditional Preston fare such as parched peas, there will be hot dogs, Christmas-themed food and vegan options.

Entertainment will come from Christmas tunes, film visuals, and live music acts.

A spokesperson from The 85 Group, who are behind Uptown Pony Club and the pop up, said: “We’ve been waiting 18 months for planning permission for Uptown Pony Club.

“When it finally came through it was good timing for a winter pop up so we decided to put it there. We’ve had the idea for a long time and we think the location will work well.”

It’s expected that the pop up bar will create ten to 15 part-time jobs.

Opening hours will be Monday to Sunday from late afternoon to 2am. It is due to open early November and run until January, when work will be begin on Uptown Pony Club.
