The monthly comedy club will be held at The Venue – the town’s new arts centre in the old library on Liverpool Road in conjunction with Tony Vino of Just Fair Laughs.

Tony is based in Leyland and runs a comedy agency which puts comedy shows on all around the country.

The first comedy night will take place on Friday November 15 and will be hosted by Tony – along with two other popular stand up acts.

Samantha Jones, Penwortham Town Council’s events co-ordination officer, said: “We have been asking for suggestions and ideas from the people of Penwortham who have visited us and a reoccurring suggestion is a comedy night.

“It was rather fortuitous that Tony contacted us and after discussions we have put some dates on the calendar.

“Tony organises a lot of comedy nights and we are confident with Penwortham and the surrounding areas support we will have a popular regular comedy night.

“Tony’s acts all come highly recommended and are popular on the scene.”

Comedy nights are already booked in for Friday November 15,  Friday December 13, Friday January 17 and Friday February 14.

Samantha added: “The Venue is proving really popular and local support has been fantastic.  Our new website will be up and running soon which will make it easier to see what is coming soon.

“We are thrilled that we are able to offer most events with no ticket fee and the best part is that people are coming in to us as part of their weekly night out.

“That’s exactly what we want with the live music for people to call in, stay for short while or spend the evening with us.

“Its been a huge learning curve – from which film to show at the Kids Saturday Morning Club to the most popular drink on a Saturday night!”
