Former Blog Preston reporter Olivia Baron has just completed a trek along the Great Wall of China in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice.

Olivia was part of a team who set off to raise as much money as they could for the Lostock Hall charity while taking in the magnificent sights of one of the seven wonders of the world.

Along the way, Olivia took part in rebuilding the wall in an area which is undergoing restoration, and conquered the Heavenly Ladder.

Her two best friends completed the challenge by her side.

Olivia said: “We’ve all had a fantastic week, I still can’t believe we have actually trekked the Great Wall of China!

“It was definitely a group effort and we have met some inspiring people along the way. Everyone has done so well.

“I couldn’t have done it without my two best friends, Bernie Smith and Carlene Nobile – we kept each other going climbing all those steps across five full on days.

“I’m very proud to have completed the challenge and raised money for an incredible local charity, St Catherine’s, which goes above and beyond to help care for people in our community and their loved ones as they go through such incredibly difficult times.

“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far and for the support we have received. It’s all very overwhelming and heartwarming.”
