The Fun Palaces campaign promotes ‘culture at the heart of community and community at the heart of culture’.
AdvertisementThere is an annual weekend of events every October.
The aim is for local people to share their passions and skills in arts, craft, science, tech, digital, heritage and sports activities.
Co-Director of Fun Palaces Stella Duffy said: “What the Fun Palaces Campaign is doing is simply providing a channel for people to come together, to make together.
“We say that creativity belongs to all of us, in our public parks and school playgrounds and estate carparks, as much as in our grand institutions and buildings. It is a way to be community, simultaneously, locally and nationwide and internationally.”
This year in Preston events are taking place on Saturday 5 October.
Lostock Hall Library is one of the venues to feature. For its second Fun Palace the library will be welcoming back many of the participants from its first year including African drumming, magic, storymaking, papercrafts, giant games and Lego. There will also be new events for adults and children such as Critters Interactive, Harry Potter activities, origami, and a face painting dare – if you are brave enough to let your family paint your face!
