Motorists can expect three weeks of delays on the M61 while work is underway to repair the carriageway.
Highways England has advised motorists ‘patching’ work will be taking place between junctions 8 Chorley and 9 Bamber Bridge at the end of the month.
Work will take place on both sides of the motorway with full closures in place Southbound between 27 and 29 August, and lane closures Northbound from August 30 to September 13.
Slip roads will be affected and diversions will be in place on some local routes.

All work will take place overnight Monday to Friday, between 9pm and 5am.
A spokesperson said: “When finished, motorists will feel the benefit of smoother and safer journeys.
“While we always aim to work to the schedule, unforeseen circumstances might mean slight changes occur at short notice.”
