Monday morning commuters are seeing major delays on the M6 at Preston.
Preston Police had shut the M6 in both directions due to a police incident on the Longridge Road bridge over the motorway.
Police reopened the motorway in both directions at 8.30am on Monday.
The northbound carriageway was closed from Junction 31 at the Tickled Trout northbound and delays are back to Junction 28 at Leyland and on the M61 back to Junction 8 at Chorley.
The M6 southbound was shut at Junction 32 and where the M55 meets the motorway. Traffic was being diverted onto the A6.
All routes through Preston are expected to be busy as police divert traffic.
There’s delays back to Junction 33 on the M6 southbound and the M55 is also very heavy heading eastbound.
The motorway closure is understood to be due to a concern for welfare of a person on the bridge over the M6.
The closure was put into place around 6am on Monday (5 August).
Police had also closed Longridge Road between Gammull Lane and the Red Scar industrial estate.
Delays are expected until at least 10am while traffic clears.
