A caravan manufacturer in Lostock Hall has been placed into administration.

Lunar Caravans employs 196 people and is headquartered in Sherdley Road.

Partners David Acland and Lila Thomas from specialist business advisory firm FRP Advisory LLP were appointed as joint administrators on Tuesday (16 July).

They revealed the firm had faced ‘severe cashflow issues’ in recent months.

A letter seen by Blog Preston showed in late June nearly 150 staff were placed on temporary leave.

FRP said at this stage the business was continuing to trade and there had been no redundancies.

All work on the 2020 caravans was stopped prior to the administrators appointment and production staff laid off.

Dave Acland said: “Lunar Caravans is a renowned manufacturer of lightweight touring caravans and over the past 50 years has established a reputation for innovative designs and cost-effective models that have become hugely sought after among UK holidaymakers, enjoying an enviable market position and strong brand.

“The UK staycation market remains strong and our focus is now on seeking a buyer for the business and its assets. We would encourage any interested parties to contact the joint administrators as soon as possible.”

Lundar Caravans was co-founded by Brian Talbot and Ken Wilcock in 1969.

It was sold to a European firm in the 1990s but a management buyout, led by Brian Mellor, went through in 2007 to return the firm to British ownership.

Anyone interested in purchasing the firm or with an interest should contact FRP Advisor on 01618333344.
