A city park and ride service is being taken on by a new bus firm.

Stagecoach is to operate the Walton-le-Dale park and ride.

The car park at the Capitol Centre allows you to park up and then catch the bus for £1.60 return into the city centre.

Preston Bus previously operated the route but Lancashire County Council has now handed it over to Stagecoach.

Operating hours will be every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday from 7am to 9pm (7pm on Saturdays).

A Sunday service is to run from 10am to 5pm.

Tickets are £1.60 for an adult return and 80p for a child return.

Stagecoach dayriders, megariders and monthly tickets cannot be used on the park and ride.

Managing director at Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire Rob Jones said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Lancashire County Council on a scheme that will help reduce congestion in the city centre.

“With limited availability for car parking in the city centre and rising train fares, taking the bus has never easier or better value for money. We have made significant investment to our buses over the last year to ensure they are fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.”
