A Ribbleton woman has died after being unwell in hospital following a dog bite.

Sharon Jennings was walking her dog along the old railway lines in Brookfield, Ribbleton, on Friday 31 May when her pet and another dog got into a fight.

The 55-year-old intervened and was bitten on the hand and the neck.

Sharon was found unwell at her home on Monday (3 June) and taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

Preston Police have now revealed she died in hospital during Friday (7 June) evening.

An appeal had been made to trace the other dog involved and its owner. A 49-year-old man has been arrested.

Detective Inspector Chris Wellard of Preston Police said: “Our thoughts are with Sharon’s family and friends at this incredibly distressing time.

“We’re working hard to establish what happened but need anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible. Did you see a dog matching this description in the area or see or hear anything around the time of the incident? Please get in touch.

“I would also appeal directly to the owner of the other dog to come forward.”

The other dog involved is described as a speckled ginger and black dog of medium height.

Its owner is described as a man with thinning grey-black hair and wearing a blue fleece type jacket.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 1134 of 5th June.
