A workshop to educate young people on the consequences of gang culture is coming to Preston.
The Red Kite School of Thai and Kickboxing is hosting the workshop in collaboration with Preston Police and Yooof Zone.
The workshop, which is themed ‘Muaythai is my gang’, aims to be a fun and informative day encompassing training in muaythai, first aid and consequential thinking.
Red Kite owner Rachel Joyner said: “We want it to be a fun session that will encourage young people to be smart about what type of groups and activities they get involved with outside of school or the family home.
“We’re including muaythai training to promote the idea of being part of a local team, striving towards fitness and positive life goals with the backing and support of team mates and the club as a whole.
“Preston Police will deliver age-appropriate first aid training and bring a police vehicle for the young people to look around. They will also discuss their experience of victim impact and laws around gang crime and joint enterprise.
“We’ll talk to the young people about consequential thinking, and Stephen Mellor from Yooof Zone will be talking to the older group about his time in prison and the impact of his crimes on his life and his victims.”
