A former doctors surgery is due to become the temporary home of a new pottery studio.

Make North is opening in what was the Saul Street Clinic.

Louise Smith launched a crowdfunding campaign to bring a pottery studio to the city.

She says she fell short of raising the £10,000 needed but said there had been such overwhelming interest, particularly from Blog Preston readers, she had found the temporary premises.

Louise said: “We will be an open-access ceramics facility and makers studios.

“We will welcome professional and amateur potters.”

She said there will be 15 studio spaces available for emerging and established design-makers.

Saul Street Clinic has plans lodged to demolish the building and create a new car park, but Louise said they were working with the building’s owners on its future use.

She told Blog Preston: “They are exploring options, one of which is car park.

“We have a three year lease, and the owners have said we can have time to get settled, build a base and then find a permanent home.”
