A major road between Preston and Lytham St Annes has been closed due to a crash involving a fire engine.

The A584 at Freckleton has been shut after a Skoda Octavia and the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service vehicle collided.

The crash took place at the junction with Kirkham Road heading towards Preston.

Lancashire Police said they attended at 11.56am on Monday (24 June).

The driver of the Skoda is injured but no further details are available.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Whilst proceeding to a fire on Hillock Lane, Warton this morning, Penwortham’s fire engine was involved in a road traffic collision with a car at the junction of Preston New Road and Kirkham Road.

“The crew involved in the collision and firefighters from Blackpool made the scene safe and treated the driver of the car until North West Ambulance Service arrived at the scene.

“No firefighters were hurt in the collision.

“Lancashire Police attended the incident and the driver of the fire engine will cooperate with the police in their investigation.”

The closure remained in place as of 1pm.
