Rail passengers are continuing to be caught up in major delays to and from Preston.

Damage to the overhead wires near Leyland caused a bottle-neck on both the West Coast Mainline and services to and from Manchester.

Virgin, Northern and Transpennine Express services have all been affected at Preston Railway Station.

The fault was reported just after 12noon on Friday (24 May).

There are delays of up to an hour for many services, and many trains have been cancelled.

Network Rail said: “A limited service is now able to run between Bolton / Wigan North Western and Preston.”

Northern say they are putting on rail replacement buses.

Preston Railway Station’s platforms have been full of passengers attempting to find alternative routes or waiting for delayed trains.
