Family pay tribute to Preston man who died after Cumbria A590 crash

The family of a Preston man who died following a crash in Cumbria have paid tribute to him.

Ali Mohammed Khawaja was involved in a crash with a lorry on the A590 near Haverthwaite on Thursday 23 May.

The 33-year-old, who was driving a Mercedes Sprinter, was flown to Royal Preston Hospital.

Cumbria Police said he died on Sunday (26 May) from his injuries.

Mr Khawaja’s family said: “Ali was loved by so many people and he always had a cheeky smile.

“He was a great-hearted person who was there for everyone and anyone.

“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Preston and Lancaster have been rocked by such devastating news.”

The driver of the truck, a 48-year-old man from Yorkshire, was uninjured in the crash which took place around 9.50am.
