A driver on the M6 at Leyland was described as ‘the luckiest person in the world right now’.
Lancashire Road Police were called out around 2pm on Monday (20 May) after the driver of a Peagout had a brush with death.
A tyre came loose from a lorry on the other side of the M6 at Leyland and the wheel went into the other carriageway.
It hit the white car at speed and shattered the windscreen.
A spokesman for the police said: “How they got it to the hard shoulder and got out is beyond us.
“The driver’s young son wanted to come out with Dad.
“Thankfully he was unable to take him, but it doesn’t bear thinking about what would have happened had his son been in this car seat.”
The driver was treated for minor injuries.
