A Fulwood school needs thousands of pounds to help repair its roof.

Kennington Primary School, in Kennington Road, was targeted during the Easter holidays.

Would-be thieves tried to steal lead from the roof and left tailes scattered across the building.

A nearby neighbour spotted the thieves in the act and alerted Preston Police – causing the vandals to flee.

A spokesperson for the school said: “The lead they stripped and left behind after fleeing had a value of around £60. The costs of repairs will be nearly £4,000.

“Budgets in the UK are extremely tight at the moment and schools can not afford to spend these sums of money on unneccessary vandalism.

“Please help us raise the money needed to make the repairs so our budget can be spent on improving the experience of the children in our school community.”

The school has already been given a fundraising boost when Preston North End donated a signed shirt for the schoool to raffle off as part of its fundraising.

So far just £300 has been pledged on the school’s Justgiving page.
