Matalan has confirmed it will be taking premises in Preston city centre.

St George’s Shopping Centre at its Lune Street entrance is to be home to the firm’s second store in the Preston area.

It marks a return to the Preston area for the firm which began its retailing from a single store in Bamber Bridge in 1985.

Now trading for more than 30 years the family retailer had more than 200 stores across the UK.

A spokeswoman for Matalan confirmed to Blog Preston: “We can confirm that Matalan will be opening a store in Preston city centre this Autumn.

“We want to build on the success of our Bamber Bridge store, offering our customers more ways to shop with us.”

The firm said they hoped the new store would create around 45 to 50 jobs.
