Rail enthusiasts were treated to a rare sighting of the LMS Jubilee Class 5690 Leander as it steamed through Preston on Saturday.

Matt Simpson was there, along with his ‘train mad’ son Oliver, three. He said: “There were lots of people there today, young and old – a real buzz about the station.”

The engine was built in Crewe in 1936 and has had several liveries and owners over the decades.
It is currently painted in Br Lined Black – the livery it carried between 1949 and 1952 – after it returned to operation in 2012.
