Among those wanting to stand to represent Preston and other towns and cities across the North West is the far-right activist Tommy Robinson – standing as an independent.

All major parties are fielding candidates in the elections although it is not know what level of campaigning the city is likely to see, of any.

Eight MEPs are elected to represent the North West which includes Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside with five million potential voters.
