European Elections are to go ahead in May – despite the city voting to leave the European Union nearly three years ago.
With Brexit set a new deadline of 31 October the North West is gearing up to elect what may be its final group of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
Among those wanting to stand to represent Preston and other towns and cities across the North West is the far-right activist Tommy Robinson – standing as an independent.
All major parties are fielding candidates in the elections although it is not know what level of campaigning the city is likely to see, of any.
Eight MEPs are elected to represent the North West which includes Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside with five million potential voters.
Elections take place during Thursday 23 May and the votes are then counted on Sunday 26 May once polls close across Europe.
