A children’s play area at Ashton Park remains open after a quick repair job.

It was damaged during Monday (15 April) evening when a car crashed into the railings.

The vehicle left the road at Pedders Lane and caused severe damage to the playground on the southern side of the park in Ashton-on-Ribble.

The crash took place around 8pm.

Preston City Council had a crew on site today to clear up the mangled fencing and ensure the play area could remain open.

A spokeswoman for the city council said: “Following a police incident, some railings and equipment on the south play area of Ashton Park has been damaged.

“The Parks team have made the equipment safe, so the play area can still be used. Thanks for your patience.”

Video footage has emerged showing a car speeding out from the Egerton Road junction, across Pedders Lane and into the park itself.

It is understood no one was hurt in the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
