Fire crews from across Lancashire were called out on Sunday (24 March) after two women got into difficulty at Longton Marsh, close to the River Ribble.

Crews from Penwortham, Tarleton and Lancaster were alerted at around 1:30pm and arrived on scene shortly after.

Crews used a rescue sledge to help the women to safety and they received precautionary checks from paramedics immediately after stepping onto dry land.

The two women were uninjured and are now safe and well at home.

Press officer for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service John Taylor has issued a warning.

He said: “Luckily the two women had their mobile phone to call 999, remember the marshy ground might not bear your weight and you could get stuck in there.”
