Police have moved to squash rumours circulating of an alleged acid attack in Preston.

PC Paul Elliott who looks after the PNE Police Twitter account posted the message.

A post on Facebook stated there had been an ‘acid attack’ in the wake of Preston North End’s victory against Birmingham City.

PC Elliott, responding to a concerned PNE fan, moved to clarify the situation.

He tweeted: “Contrary to ‘social media’ reports there has been no such incident today.

“There had been reports earlier in the week regarding an ‘acid attack’ in Preston and we believe this is one and the same rumour.”
