A man is receiving extensive surgery after stabbing himself in the neck.

A statement from Lancashire Road Police said a man was stabbing himself in the neck.
The incident took place during Saturday (23 March) around 10pm.
A police spokesman said: “With the assistance of taser the threat to officers was dealt with and the trauma first aid training kicked in delivering the best possible.”
Police said the man was taken to Royal Preston Hospital and is undergoing ‘extensive surgery’.
It was described by officers as ‘an absolutely horrific incident’.

The incident took place in Preston city centre and the police spokesman confirmed the taser was not fired during the incident.
