Only one person is to be interviewed to become the new chief executive of Preston City Council.

An internal-only process has put forward one candidate for the job.

Councillors from across the political parties have shortlisted candidates and are due to make a recommendation at a future full council meeting.

The city’s current interim chief executive is Adrian Phillips. He took on the role last year when Lorraine Norris announced she was retiring.

Pay for the chief executive is listed as £102,156 to £113,507 with the current interim chief exec pay listed as between £90,000-95,000.

The interview for the potential new chief executive officer is due to be on Monday 25 March from 10am.

The chief executive post is the most senior council officer and also holds the post of returning officer for local elections and all elections and referendums run by the city council.

A spokeswoman for the city council said: “A cross-party Chief Officer Employment Committee is currently undertaking an internal, competitive recruitment process for the permanent appointment of a Chief Executive Officer for Preston City Council.

“A meeting has been arranged to assess & interview the shortlisted candidate later this month, any resulting recommendations will be taken to a subsequent full Council meeting.

No further comment will be given until the conclusion of the recruitment process.”
