Waitrose home deliveries were delayed during Saturday in Preston.

A delivery van misjudged the height of the railway bridge at Lytham Road on the Ashton-on-Ribble/Fulwood border.

Preston Police attended and managed to remove the van by letting some air out of its tyres.

Traffic was held in both direction while the incident was dealt with around lunchtime on Saturday (16 February).

Adam Stimbble posted on Instagram: “Someone’s prawns are going to be a little late.”

LancsRoadPolice tweeted: “Oops! The driver of this vehicle failed to read the signs properly and found out the hard way when he drove through and came to a sudden stop. Caused a little chaos but removed it by letting some air out of the tyres.”

Lytham Road railway bridge is due to be shut from 8.30am to 5pm each day from Monday 25 February for waterproofing and structural works.
