Dozens of people are expected to join an event to demand an end to violence against women.

For the seventh year running the University of Central Lancashire plays host to the One Billion Rising for Justice Day event.

The Preston gathering takes place on Valentine’s Day as part of the world-wide awareness campaign.

Organised by the UCLan creative communities group hundreds of cities across the world join in.

Those attending the event show they stand in solidarity against the shocking statistic that one in three women will be beaten or raped in their lifetime around the world.

Nigel Farnworth, UCLan Creative Communities Group (CCG) manager who is helping to organise the gathering, said: “One Billion is the biggest mass action in human history and we are proud to be involved for the seventh year running. All members of the community are welcome to come along and join us in sending out a powerful message.”

One Billion Rising takes place in the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre on the UCLan campus in Marsh Lane.
