An Imam’s offer of free lifts for elderly people in Deepdale has gone viral.
AdvertisementNadeem Ashfaq, who is also co-founder at Light Foundation, posted his offer in various Facebook groups during the recent cold weather.
He wrote: “If any one knows of any elderly people in the Deepdale area of Preston, Muslim or non, who live by themselves, and might want a lift to the local shops or supermarkets, but feel nervous because of the icy and cold conditions, please ask them to contact myself on 07794949217. Though I’m not a taxi driver, I’ll be offering a free taxi service.”
One post, in the Preston Past and Present group, quickly attracted over 700 reactions and was shared more than 200 times.
Group members left over 100 comments praising Nadeem for his kindness and community spirit.

Nadeem said: “I’ve just been overwhelmed by the response I’ve had about offering free lifts. I gave 19 lifts to elderly people including couples.
“I offered the lifts as I had seen the elderly in particular struggle walking in the icy and snowy conditions.
“I feel it’s really important to look out for each other and to help each other in any way we can, however little the gesture.”
