A cyclist was pushed off his bike and remains in hospital after an attempted robbery in the Plungington area of the city.

The 33-year-old was cycling along Garstang Road at its junction with Aqueduct Street when he was jumped.

Two men approached the cyclist, who was riding alongside a woman.

Both men, who were on a moped style bike, had their faces covered during the incident at 8.25pm on Tuesday (19 February).

The victim tried to ride away but as he crossed the road he was chased on foot by one of the men and his bike was pushed from behind. He crashed into a wall and suffered serious head injuries.

Preston Police say while the cyclist lay unconscious he was searched by the men but it’s not clear at this stage whether anything was taken.

The men made off on the moped in the direction of Aqueduct Street.

DC Fabian Spence of Preston Police said: “The victim has suffered serious injuries and we are doing all we can to find those responsible. We need people to come forward with any information they may have to assist our investigation.

“We are particularly appealing to motorists who may have dash cam footage of the attack, or showing the moped being driven in the area in the moments leading up to, or following the incident.”
