10. KimJi Korean Restaurant
Standing at number 193 out of 408 restaurants in Preston, this newly-opened Winckley Street restaurant has garnered just 8 reviews so far.
Six of the ratings are excellent, and two are very good. With reviews being frequently added it seems it won’t be long until KimJi moves right up the rankings.
SusieH14 awarded five stars and said: “We decided to eat from the set lunch menu. This was delicious and fantastic value at £7.95 for a main course and a side. The beef rice bowl was really tasty and satisfying for a grey winter day. We opted for one side of dumplings and one of KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). This chicken was absolutely gorgeous and definitely be on my list for our next visit… This is a great addition to Preston’s restaurants with fresh and tasty cooked food.”

9. Sunflower Oriental Cuisine
Lostock Hall’s highest rated Chinese takeaway has four stars from 27 reviews.
Sunflower recently managed to score a five star rating just four days after receiving a one star review.
Samantha J was impressed and said: “We have used this takeout many times. The food’s always delivered hot and it tastes amazing. They accommodate additional needs in regards to the meals they prepare for us. Will use again.”
But GlobeTrotting199837 had an issue with the service: “Placed an order and expected to receive within 45 mins. Over an hour passes so I call to enquire where the food is. Im told they haven’t started making my food. I said when was you going to start making it or at least tell me about this. His reply was “when the driver got back” – UNBELIEVABLE haha.”
8. Fortune House
This Fishergate Hill takeaway scored five stars from four out of five reviews received in 2018.
It’s had 26 ratings overall, 72 per cent of which were excellent, and has a four star rating.
Julie G said: Fortune House is friendly and adaptable: “Kids don’t like veg in their food so they will leave items out of the food if you want lots of choice and have had most of them. All good always going there for a treat and never disappoints. Thank you.”

7. New China
Based on Water Lane, this takeaway is rated four-and-a-half out of five based on 51 reviews.
It’s not clear why New China lags behind Chiu Kwan, although a couple of one out of five ratings in 2018 may have dinted its ranking.
While the most recent reviewer FamilyFriendlyFun gave five stars and said New China is “good for all including vegetarians”, Passport08561729036 said it was terrible: “I just felt I had to write a review as the food was inedible and it all went in the bin! The wontons weren’t cooked. The chicken wings were dry and overcooked . The egg fried rice was more like boiled rice and sloppy and bland.”
6. Chiu Kwan
This Blackpool Road takeaway has a rating of four stars after 29 reviews.
Excellent ratings account for 66 per cent of reviews.
There are mixed feelings from the last two reviewers. Echopreston_7 said it’s “the best in Preston” and called the special chow mein the “food of gods”. Janet W said her son enjoyed the salt n pepper chicken but her beef curry was “okay, not the best I have had”.
5. Beijing Chinese Restaurant
Based in Leyland, this restaurant scores four-and-a-half stars from 164 reviews.
Ranked number 13 of restaurants in Leyland, Beijing has received 63 per cent excellent reviews and 21 per cent very good.
Mike V left a glowing review: “Hit on this restaurant by accident as another restaurant we were going to nearby was booked for a wedding reception. How lucky we were. The food here is very good, as good as most in Chinatown, Manchester and the best by a mile in the Preston area. You also get large portions here so beware of ordering too much. The food tasted authentic Chinese and the price is reasonable. Draught beer also very good. The owner is also very friendly and helpful.”

4. Happy Valley
This Walton-le-Dale takeaway has four-and-a-half stars from 41 reviews.
With 66 per cent of ratings excellent, and 21 per cent very good, Happy Valley comes in at number 149 of all Preston restaurants.
It’s a while since their last review, but in June 2018 PopcornMonkeyReviews said: “This place is just incredible, the food is absolutely amazing, we come all the time, last time was back in April, the food was amazing, always is… Staff very friendly and helpful and prices are really reasonable… I can’t find any better quality Chinese food in the whole of Lancashire, this place is just amazing, thank you!”
3. Barton Takeaway
On Garstang Road on the way out of Preston, this place sells fish and chips and Holland’s Pies as well as Chinese food.
And while some of the reviews focus on the chippy side of the operation, plenty have good things to say about the Chinese menu. Of the 38 reviews, 73 per cent are excellent.
RJRC13 said: “I’m near the centre of Preston and there are plenty of takeaways on my doorstep, including many that deliver. Instead though, I hop in my car and drive for 15-20min to get to this place when I fancy Chinese, because I’m yet to find somewhere as consistently nice anywhere near the area.”
2. Azuma
This Korean BBQ restaurant on Friargate has a five star rating but loses out on top spot due to the small number of reviews. Of 25 ratings, 96 per cent are excellent and the rest are very good.
The Preston location opened in early 2018, and became the third Azuma nationally after Bradford and Manchester.
859MikeD said he rates Azuma more highly than similar restaurants in Manchester and Liverpool. He said: “My wife and I have dined in Azuma on a number of occasions – trying a variety of dishes and styles from a very comprehensive menu (which includes a very UK-centric ‘safe’ list of Chinese-styled dishes for the less adventurous). Azuma also offers both Hot Pot (cook-at-the-table broth-based dishes) and – as we tried last night – a Barbecue menu (again, hot-plate/cook-at-the-table, with dry/marinated meats).”
1. Tang
Based on Fylde Road, this restaurant and karaoke bar has a four-and-a-half star rating from 763 reviews. That puts Tang at 18th in the overall list of Preston restaurants.
74 per cent of reviewers rated them excellent, with a further 17 per cent choosing very good.
Reviewer Seanybizzlez said it’s the best Chinese he’s had outside Asia: “Absolutely love this place. I’ve been as a couple with my partner and with the work lot for karaoke. The food has never disappointed. The char sui bao, chickens feet and chilli fried squid are my personal favourites. Amazing authentic Chinese food.”
