A Preston man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a pair of penguins.
AdvertisementNottinghamshire Police said on Friday (18 January) they had located two Humboldt penguins who were taken from a zoo in November.
Sergeant Andrew Browning said they had arrested the 23-year-old man from Preston on suspicion of burglary and theft.
The penguins were located in Strelley Village, near Nottingham, during Wednesday (16 January) and the police posted to say at first they thought it was a ‘cold case’.
Sergeant Andrew Browning said: “My first thought was this is one for the books, and one to tell the grandkids, because there’s no way we thought we would go down there and actually find two penguins.
“It was an unusual one. Even when we went down to custody it made everyone laugh, particularly the custody sergeant who was booking us in. It was a real off-the-wall find.”
The penguins were returned to the zoo, which Nottinghamshire Live said cannot be named by police for operational reasons.
